17th International Congress of Turkish Art

17th International Congress of Turkish Art will be held between 18-21 September 2023 in Warsaw, at the Museum of King Jan III’s Palace at Wilanów and the University of Warsaw. This year’s Congress coincides with the centenary of the Republic of Turkey.

The Congress is a forum for the development of research on Turkish artistic culture and for expanding research areas and methods. Thematic strands of this year’s Congress in Warsaw will cover traditional subjects within the scope of Turkish art (architecture, painting, art of the book, ceramics, textiles), as well as the art at war (metalwork, textiles, miniatures, iconography), and the art of tombs and tombstones (the interface of sculpture, architecture, archaeology, epigraphy, literature, linguistics, history of society and religion).

Special events will include exhibitions devoted to Turkish motifs in garden art and the early written culture of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Among the exhibits, unique old books of the Tatars from the Vilnius, Podlasie, and Nowogródek regions will be presented, owing to the courtesy of the National Museum of Lithuania in Vilnius.

Further details concerning the programme of the Congress and the co-occurring events and exhibitions can be found at Museum of King Jan III’s Palace at Wilanów.
