Kinga Lis – a research associate at the Department of the History of English and Translation Studies of the Faculty of Humanities of John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin; a linguist. Her research interests involve historical Psalter translations into English and French, book history, medieval multilingualism with a special focus on the languages of religion, and the history of the English language, in particular: lexicology, etymology, borrowings, code-switching and the subjunctive.
She analyses Middle English and Anglo-Norman Psalter translations bringing together traditional philological studies with statistical analysis and cosine similarity measurements. In her subjunctive studies she investigates texts from various periods in the history of English (from Old to Late Modern English) and Middle French works. The majority of her research is manuscript-based, and in the case of printed texts, based on the earliest editions. She is the author of two monographs: The Etymology of Nouns in Middle English Prose Psalter Renditions (Lublin, Werset 2017) and The Use of the Subjunctive in an Early Modern English Translation of the Laws of Oléron (Lublin, Werset 2021).
