SIGLUM

Urszula Świątek, BA, a student at the Institute of Musicology, University of Warsaw, graduate of the Institute of English Studies, University of Warsaw. My research interests centre around music in early Poland, early music editing, early music inspirations in contemporary music, musical settings of Old and Middle English texts (‘Contemporary musical settings of Beowulf’, Patchwork 2021, No. 6), and historical linguistics. In my research, I would like to focus on musical items held at local libraries and archives. Given the turmoil Poland faced in the past century, many of the musical collections are in need of identification, accurate description, cataloguing, and possibly re-editing with the aim of musical performance and/or analysis. I would also like to carry out research into historical musical cultures from the area of present-day Poland.

I am currently working on the collection of music from the former Schaffgotsch Library in Cieplice Śląskie-Zdrój (Bad Warmbrunn) which was transferred to the National Library in Warsaw after 1947.
