Material analysis of selected folios containing illegible text and palimpsests from two 13th-century English manuscripts: Oxford, Corpus Christi College MS 59, and Pavia, Bibliotheca Universitaria MS Aldini 69, in collaboration with the Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures in Hamburg.
The project involves non-invasive analysis with the use of specialised equipment and methodologies designed to recover erased or overwritten text. This includes the application of multispectral imaging (MSI) and statistical image processing methods to decipher the text, as well as the identification and comparison of ink compositions used in different parts of the manuscripts through reflectography and X-ray fluorescence (XRF).
