Łukasz Kalużny

Łukasz Kalużny, PhD candidate at the Doctoral School of Humanities at the University of Warsaw. He holds degrees in Italian Philology and Hebrew Studies. He teaches Modern Hebrew, Biblical Hebrew, and Italian, and is the founder of the UniVersa Language Centre dedicated to promoting and teaching the cultures of Mediterranean countries, with particular emphasis on Jewish and Italian heritage. His academic research focuses on Judeo-Italian translations as well as the history and textual tradition of Jewish literature. He is particularly interested in Hebrew and Judeo-Italian manuscripts and early printed books, especially those originating from the Italian Peninsula. In his doctoral dissertation, he examined the Judeo-Italian translations produced by Samuele di Castelnuovo, secretary of the Jewish community in Rome, written in Hebrew script between the 16th and 17th centuries. The study centers on the translations of Mi kamokha by Yehuda ha-Levi and Meon ha-Sho’alim by Moses da Rieti; it includes critical editions and transcriptions of the texts and an analysis of their religious and cultural impact on the Italian Jewish communities.

He actively disseminates his research through international conferences, university teaching, and academic publications. He is currently preparing an article on contemporary Jewish languages spoken in Israel, as well as a study on Rabbi David Kahane and the reconstruction of Jewish life in Poland after the Second World War.
