CfP: Manuscript Practices and the Making of Exile Communities in the Early Modern Period

The Institute of Philosophy and the Institute of History of the Czech Academy of Sciences invite proposals for papers and abstracts for the conference Manuscript Practices and the Making of Exile Communities in the Early Modern Period, to be held on 15–16 April 2026.

The conference will focus on the role of manuscript culture in diverse religious communities living in exile during the early modern period (with particular emphasis on the 1620s and 1630s). Special attention will be given to the ways in which the written word was employed to sustain, transmit, and reshape both collective and individual identities in the face of displacement and religious conflict.

Abstracts (100-200 words) plus short bio notes should be emailed to Tomáš Havelka (havelka@flu.cas.cz) by 30 October 2025.

Further details are available on the conference website.
