Gramophone Award for the Krasiński Codex album
The album The Krasiński Codex (“Kodeks Krasińskich”) by Ensemble Dragma and Ensemble Peregrina, directed by Agnieszka Budzińska-Bennett, has been awarded the Gramophone Classical Music Award in the Early Music category. This three-disc release presents the complete repertoire preserved in manuscript Kras 52 – the most valuable Polish source of medieval polyphony, which shaped the sonic landscape of the court of the early Jagiellons and fifteenth-century Kraków.
The bilingual performance edition of the manuscript, published by the Polish Music Publishers (PWM), is accompanied by a critical apparatus, translations of the texts, and a scholarly commentary discussing key aspects of each composition.
Dr. Agnieszka Budzińska-Bennett spoke about working with medieval manuscripts and reconstructing early music from historical sources in a conversation with Marcin Krawczuk on the SIGLUM forum: “Every manuscript is a microcosm” (Każdy rękopis jest mikrokosmosem).
